Wheels up
Has been a long wait, but finally the day has come. Tony and I are travelling unchartered waters of sorts - overseas travel on our own again. The last trip we took that needed our passport was to Bangkok in 2004.
Nate was available to take us to the airport so he picked us up from home at 0745. A quick stop at Maccas for breakfast and we were on the way. The traffic was kind so I think it was just about 30 minutes and we were at the domestic terminal at Adelaide Airport. We said our farewells and headed inside. I might say I was a little nervous as my suitcase was right on its limit. In fact at home it was 23.7 kg!! Luckily when i put it on the bag scale it only read at 22 kg. Still got a "Im heavy" label.
Wasn't much of a wait in the airport which was nice. Had our photo taken with the 1997 premiership cup as it was gather round and part of a promotion. That was kinda cool. The plane then started to board at 9.40 which was definitely early. It wasn't completely full so it seemed like only a few minutes passed before we pushed back. We had row 3 which was first of the non business class seats right up front. We had a weird woman next to us who moved and then went on to argue with the flight attendant because her purchased wrap didn't have a best before date on it. She also ordered herself a red wine - who am I to judge wine drinking at 1000 I guess.
The flight was pretty smooth, considering the weather on the east coast has been terrible and there is a large rain band forecast. We fly out over the city and our house, and then on arrival to Brisbane we flew right over the cruise port. We chose to stay at the Pullman Airport hotel which is only a 5 minute walk from the arrival hall, so as soon as we got our bags we took a walk to the hotel. We stayed at the IBIS hotel last time for the day which is right next door.
We were able to check in early which was great - dropped in our bags and then went back to the IBIS for lunch. We decided to share a burger which was absolutely the right decision as they are huge here. After lunch we returned to our room for a nice little nanna nap.
We woke about 530 feeling refreshed so then had to wonder back over to the airport to try and find some water and some food. We struck out on the food - we would have had to go back through security and there was a huge queue. We decided that we would treat ourselves to room service so it was a couple of club sandwiches and a couple of canoli.
I decided to take advantage of the huge bathtub and had a bath while we watched what could only be described as a crappy chick flick movie.
